COACH SPENCER SABIN (Co- HEAD COACH)
Spencer Sabin grew up in East San Diego County. He is a son
of HS basketball coach and excelled in a variety of sports throughout his
childhood. While playing basketball one afternoon during his freshman summer at
the Kennedy Park gym, he was recruited to play club lacrosse by the man consider
to be The Godfather of San Diego Lacrosse, Norm Webb. (A two time All-American
at Army in 1963-64, in addition, the only player in NCAA Lacrosse history to
receive the Sydney M. Cone Trophy as the best goalie in the nation twice. )
While attending Granite Hills HS, Coach Sabin was a 3 year
Varsity letterman and Senior Captain of the Football and Lacrosse team. During
the 1998 Lacrosse season, Coach Sabin and his teammates did the unthinkable by
beating Poway HS 7-6, on their own field during the SDCLA Quarterfinals becoming
the only East County HS Lacrosse team to reach the semi-finals in the history of
San Diego Lacrosse.
After graduation, Coach Sabin immediately began coaching
lacrosse part time at Granite Hills HS under the direction of former Head Coach
Seth Bokmeyer. In 2002, Coach Sabin took on his first full-time coaching
position at Granite Hills HS as the JV Co-Head Coach and Varsity Attack coach.
During the 2003 and 2004 Lacrosse season, Coach Sabin went
on to be a standout player and leading scorer for the San Diego State Men’s
Lacrosse team. After graduation, Coach Sabin returned to the Granite Hills
sidelines in 2005, as the Varsity Offensive Coordinator. In his return, the team
won its first SD-CIF Grossmont League Championship in school history.
Coach Sabin attributes his success as a player and coach to
all the Granite Hills Lacrosse legends that paved the way before him such as
